The New York City Department of Transportation is taking the current biking boom seriously! They're sponsoring two fun-sounding events in early August.

Ride with the NYC DOT and the Rockaway Waterfront Alliance to Fort Tilden! We will ride at a relaxed pace on a combination of bike lanes, city streets, and off-street paths (including the Jamaica Bay Greenway) to Fort Tilden. At the park, the Rockaway Artists Alliance (RAA) will provide a FREE guided tour of the Rockaway! Public Arts Festival, organized by RAA and the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy and sponsored by MoMA PS1 and the National Park Service. After the tour, bike home on your own, or follow a ride marshal back to Beach 116th St station. The bike ride is approximately 6 miles, one way.

Bike and Hike the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge

Ride with the NYC DOT to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge! We will ride on a combination of bike lanes, city streets, and off-street paths (including the Jamaica Bay Greenway) to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. At the Refuge, the American Littoral Society will provide a FREE guided tour, lasting about an hour. After the ride, bike home on your own, or follow a ride marshal to the Broad Channel A train. Children welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult.
